HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Halloween Everyone!

We have a family tradition of carving pumpkins together every year.  It turns into a little party, put on some fun halloween music (like the monster mash), serve up some nice warm soup with hot cocoa and caramel apples for dessert!  This year was still a little warm for the hot cocoa, but we still had the soup and caramel apples!

My family is pretty artistic... surprised? lol... so pumpkin carving is just another way to express ourselves.  We love to get into the detailed designs!  But, this year was my nephews first time to be able to participate, so I used the PUMPKIN CARVINGS cricut cartridge to make it simple.  He's only 2, but insisted on carrying his own pumpkin...

Of course, he had help cleaning it out.... lol...

Now for the fun part... we used the template to draw a happy face on his pumpkin and my sister used the skull & crossbones for her template.

So here is the happy face...

And here is the skull and crossbone pumpkin,,,

These were the only two that we used the cricut templates on, the rest of then were free-handed and fun...

We just love doing this together!  Though my army son is far away from home, I was just tickled pink when he not only carved a pumpkin (military style, lol) but he TOOK PICTURES OF IT and sent them to me!  He will still be in this years Skinner Pumpkin Carving minibook!

It's an Army sniper... now that is something to be scared of!  LOL!

No template was used for this... pretty good, huh?

Well, I hope EVERYONE has a fun and safe Halloween!  Our kids are trick or treating tonight so our pumpkins will be all lit and ready for them!  Don't forget that today is the last chance to win the PINK CRICUT and PINK GYPSY BUNDLE!  Leave a comment before midnight tonight CST to be eligible!  Good luck everyone!

SMILEY CARDS: Emoticons!

Hello Everyone!

Thanks for all the support for THINK PINK week!  It's been an emotional rollercoaster and so bizarre that not one, but two of our fellow blogger/cricuteers would have major surgery only one day apart DURING the week that Robyn and I were trying to bring awareness to the Breast Cancer cause.  Thankfully both Brenda & Monique are doing well!

There are only TWO days left to purchase a gypsy and get it registered BEFORE midnight tomorrow night!  Because starting on Monday, you will be able to update your gypsy and SIX new cartridges will be downloaded for FREE!  Yep... I said FREE!  Read more about this awesome GYPSY PROMO HERE... and yes, current gypsy owners are included in this promo!

One of the free cartridges that you get is the brand new SMILEY CARDS cartridge.  OMG!  I'm so XCITD about this CRZY cartridge!  ROTFL! hehee  Yes... you guessed it, this cartridge offers a full page of EMOTICONS and the sayings that go with them!  It's definitely a QT PI cartridge!  (SRY couldn't resist, LOL!)

Here are just a few cards that I made with this feature:

Photobucket

I had bought a package of cute notecards from the dollar section of Michaels a couple of months ago... no real plan for them, I was just attracted to the yellow strip and gray polka dots.  Well, I wish I could go back and get more now because they are perfect for this cartridge!!

Photobucket

I just love the emoticons... and who doesn't need a 'SRY' card every now and then?  I might need to make a bunch of these... you know... just in case.  hehee

Photobucket

Same card base, but different emoticon...

Photobucket

I'm always looking for cute and easy THANK YOU cards!  They don't get any easier than this one... or cuter!  The smiley was cut at 3.5" and has four easy layers, black, yellow, white & pink.

Photobucket

The THX was cut at 1" and the matching thought bubble was 1" also.  Each of the emoticon phrases have a matching thought bubble and they are all different shapes and sizes, but are designed to be cut at the same size as the coordinating phrase so it will fit perfectly.  Gotta love that!

Photobucket

Well, I loved it so much... I made four of them!  Hehee  And they were all made out of my scrap drawer!

Photobucket

This just shows you that the emoticon doesn't alway have to be yellow!  Isn't she adorable? This is my THINK PINK card that I'm sending to Angela's mom!  She can use all the hugs she can get!  Which reminds me, I want to thank everyone for all the kind comments for her and Angela yesterday... you all ROCK!  We decided that Linda needs a RIBBON JAR, too, and several of you asked for her address so you can send her a card and ribbon too!  Thanks!

Linda James
415 W. Myrtle Street
Winnsboro, TX 75494

Photobucket

She was cut at 4" which left no room for the thought bubble, so I just added the HUGS at the bottom.

Photobucket

A green bow for her head and viola!... finished card!

Photobucket

Oh, I have more for you!  Oh so much more from this cartridge, but that will be later today.  In the meantime, you have got to go see what Robyn (http://www.mypinkstamper.com/) has made with SMILEY CARDS!  I think that the 'OH SNAP' card is my favorite!  What's yours?

Don't forget that you can still leave a comment to be eligible to win the PINK EXPRESSION and someone special who is either a Breast Cancer SURVIVOR or FIGHTER will win a PINK GYPSY BUNDLE!  Comments will be closed at midnight Sunday (Halloween) CST and randomly drawn winners will be announced first thing Monday morning.

Have a great SATURDAY everyone!

THINK PINK WEEK... Meet my bff, Angela & her mom, Linda

Hi, it’s Angela and this is my mom Linda.  Tammy has dedicated today's post to my mom and is allowing me to tell our story.

She is currently fighting breast cancer. Mom was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last November, but I guess you could say her fight (and possibly mine) started long before that. I lost both my great-great grandmother and my great-grandmother to breast cancer. And then, my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer a little over ten years ago and had to have a double mastectomy. And now my mother, was diagnosed and had to also have a double mastectomy in January 2010. She was told a little over a week ago that her cancer had metastasized to her bone, but then was told several days later that it had not. So now they are doing additional tests and we are just waiting to see what they find.

My mother and I walked in our first Breast Cancer 3-day in 2005 in honor of my grandmother and the thousands of other men and women that have had, do have and will have breast cancer. We thought the cause so great that we walked again in 2008.  That year, my mother and I with the help of my BFF Tammy hosted several Think Pink and Scrap Pink events to help raise money for breast cancer awareness. It’s a cause near and dear to our hearts!

That was even before my mom was ever diagnosed with the horrible disease.  We kinda knew in our hearts that she would have breast cancer, just like we feel sure that I too, will one day have breast cancer.  It seems to run in our family.  Now, in 2011 I will walk again with my brothers, aunts and friends for my mother (who is such a fighter and wants to walk with us, but we will have to see what the new year brings). So this may be the end of Breast Cancer Awareness month, but our fight for this great cause will continue. You will hear more about my mother’s story and many like hers in the weeks and months to come.

And remember… Don’t be scared, just be aware!

Crafting my day away,

Angela

Ribbon Jar for Brenda and THINK PINK for Monique!

Hello Everyone!

Today's THINK PINK project is the 'ribbon jar' that I embellished for Brenda with a matching card.  I was originally going to send this really big plastic jar, but changed my mind.  So, I bought a very nice urn-type jar at Hobby Lobby (yes I used this week's coupon!) and wanted to 'dress it up' a bit

So I added vinyl using the EASTER 2010, PINK JOURNEY and GYPSY FONT cartridges.  Here's a little tip on how to "Weld Letters on the Gypsy on a Curve:

Next is a tip on how to dress your projects up with a little customized bling!

And here is what you get!

Yesterday, I'm sure was a long day for Brenda.  She said that she started to get anxious about things that were said at the hospital, like the side effects of treatments, etc.  But her sscrubby, Ron, told her to leave her worries in the Lord's hands.  So, that was my inspiration for both the embellishment on the jar and the matching card.  The cross represents God and the pink breast cancer ribbon represents all of Brenda's worries.  I laid the pink ribbon on top of the cross to remind Linda of what Ron said and give her worries up to the Lord.

I cut the shadow of the cross from the EASTER 2010 cricut cartridge at 4" in white vinyl.  The pink ribbon is from PINK JOURNEY and was cut out at 2.25" in pink vinyl.  Remember the rhinestones (video above) I colored with my copic markers?  Here they are:

Personalizing a gift makes it even more special.  I added Brenda's name to the bottom of the base (you can see the other video above for a quick tip on how to weld on a curve).  The font is GYPSY FONT and was cut at 1" out of pink vinyl.

I love making matching cards!  All the cuts on the card are the same size as the embellishments on the jar, just with cardstock instead of vinyl.  I added a matted scalloped oval that was from PINK JOURNEY also.

Brenda, I really hope that you like it because I want this ribbon jar to be something special for you!

I love this project so much, not just for how pretty it turned out, but what it means.  So, I decided to make one for MONIQUE GRIFFITH, too.  Today's post is dedicated to Monique because she is in surgery today... please keep her in your thoughts & prayers today.  For those of you who don't know her yet, she is another fellow blogger and cricuteer.  Check out her blog HERE.  Monique is uber talented, she teaches cricut classes and sells page kits that she designs herself.  I have been a follower of hers for over a year, but got to meet her and her bff, Wendy, in person at Winter CHA this past January.

Monique and I

Wendy, Teresa Collins and I

I look forward to getting to know both Monique and Wendy better after we move to California next summer!

Monique was diagnosed with Stage 3 Inflamatory Breast Cancer  back in June of this year.  Since, then I don't think she has slowed down a bit.  They formed a team to walk in support of Breast Cancer Research.

I know that many of you have already mailed cards to Monique and might want to mail her another one since she is in surgery today.  If you do, would you please include a piece of pink ribbon?  Doesn't matter what size or pattern... just something for her to add to her ribbon jar and be reminded that she is not alone.  Monique has a CARINGBRIDGE journal that you can access HERE.  She definitely has a message to share and wants everyone to educate themselves on how different the type of breast cancer she has really is.  Please take a moment to read her posts from this week especially.  Here is Monique's address:

Monique Griffith
1879 Butterfly Court
Rocklin, CA 95765

Hugs and kisses Monique!  We are all with you in spirit!

Cricut Survival Story...

Right in the middle of THINK PINK week, I just had to share this 'Cricut Survival' story with you...

"
10/26/2010 - Provo Craft Cricut Create Survives School Fire
And Today Still Helps 7th Graders Make and Preserve Memories

South Jordan, UT - October 25, 2010 - April 10, 2010, was an otherwise normal day at Fredericktown R-1 Middle School, Home of the Blackcats and 421 6th-8th graders, until fire swept down hallways destroying almost every classroom and public area. Fredericktown R-1 Middle School is located in Southeast Missouri in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in a town of approximately 4,000.

Just a few weeks before the fire Amanda Wengler, a home economics and reading teacher to some 130 twelve-year-old boys and girls, purchased a new Cricut Create from a friend. Wanting a Cricut for a long time she finally took advantage when her friend decided to upgrade to a Cricut Expression.

"I was so happy I did," she shares in an email, "I teach Middle School home economics and an after school program and part of my curriculum includes memory making and keeping. I took my Cricut to school and the kids, both boys and girls, loved using it for projects and would bring things in throughout the week that they wanted to work on."

Twelve-year old Hunter Kay, one of Mrs. Wengler's students says, "The Cricut Create is great for all our dye cut needs. It ‘wows’ me every time I use it!"

"Our Cricut Create is the most amazing scrapbooking tool ever!" says an excited twelve-year old Krystal Cox, "It has helped me with my scrapbook during our after-school program, Learning Zone. It's so fast at making words, numbers, and all the other cool stuff it does."

On the day of the fire, Mrs. Wenglers's class room experienced severe damage. "Everything was a total loss," she explains. "Nearly everything in my classroom was destroyed, including the scrapbooks of my own children and all of my scrapbooking supplies."

After the shock of the fire, Mrs. Wengler's thoughts turned to her brand new Cricut. She was heartbroken. When she finally had the chance to rummage through the mess and reclaim anything salvageable, she found her Cricut Create. "It was in the original box, sitting on a countertop in my classroom. It wasn’t too badly burned so I grabbed it, hoping for a miracle."

At home Mrs. Wengler lovingly cleaned the singed machine and let it dry out for a few days (it had been soaked by firemen extinguishing the fire). When Mrs. Wengler finally had the nerve to plug in the Cricut and power it on she was thrilled to find that it still worked!

"By some miracle it was saved," says Mrs. Wengler. "It's a little discolored and smells a little smoky but otherwise it works just fine." The fire reached up to 2,000 degrees, melted the glass windows and left nothing but a pile of rubble where Mrs. Wengler’s classroom once stood.

"We'll never tout our machines as fireproof," says a smiling Jim Thornton, CEO of Provo Craft. "We are just thrilled this ends happily, with no injured students and a heroic Cricut survival story. Hearing Mrs. Wengler's account made us grateful for their safety and proud of what we do to help support the education system."

"I love my Cricut Create machine," concludes Mrs. Wengler, "And I’m thrilled I still have it."

Upon hearing Mrs. Wengler's story Provo Craft sent her classroom a new Cricut Expression and several cartridges to replenish their lost library.

For additional information on Provo Craft, please visit http://www.provocraft.com/, http://www.cricut.com/, or follow us on Twitter.

I just loved that.  I would HATE to loose my scrapbooks in a fire, I think I would just curl up and cry.  I've always instructed my family that in case of fire, each person was to grab as many scrapbooks as they can on the way out the door or window or whatever... LOL!  I've always threatened to make a window sticker that says, "SCRAPBOOKS HERE" and put it on my family room window where my scrapbooks are stored!  HA!  That way the firefighters would be able to help save them too!  Okay, okay... I'm just kidding... sorta... hehee.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

THINK PINK with Vinyl and Magnet Material!

Hello Everyone!

No fair with all the comments yesterday! Several brought tears to my eyes!  I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who prayed for Brenda yesterday and everyone who is sending her cards and ribbons!

I got an email from one of my subscribers, Karey, who is a hockey mom from Canada.  She read my pink vinyl ribbon post a few weeks ago (HERE) and liked the idea of putting the ribbons on the boy's football helmets.  One of her fellow hockey moms, Sharon, was just recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  It has really shaken the whole hockey team up and they all want to do something for her.  They've signed up to provide meals for the family, but the boys want to wear a pink ribbon on their helmets to specifically honor Sharon.  Karey explained to me that she had no access to any of the cartridges that had ribbons on them and wanted to know if she could just buy the ribbons somewhere.  I immediately told her that I would be happy to cut them for her and send them in the mail.

This was such an easy task, how could I refuse?  After all, I was once a hockey mom, too!  (I miss those days!)  One pkg of 12x12 pink vinyl is only $9.99 and since I only needed 1 12x12 piece it cost me a mere $2.50.  I had saved the cutfile from when I cut the ribbons for my nephew's football team and it literally took 30 minutes start to finish, including weeding, rolling them up and putting them in a tube to be mailed.

One 12x12 Pink Vinyl

Weed the vinyl (remove unwanted pieces)

Using a 'kiss cut' allows the ribbons to stay on the backing for transportation

Roll them up to be shipped in a mailer tube... easy peasy!

So, Karey!  They are on the way!  I dedicate today's post to your friend and fellow hockey mom, Sharon.  Please let her know that she is in my thoughts and prayers!

I have just one more project for you before you go....

PINK MAGNET RIBBONS

I started making these last year when I discovered how to cut magnet material on my cricut!  There are a few little tricks to it, so if you've never seen it done before, check out the video below!

You can personalize them in any way with black vinyl on top!

The cartridges that contain a ribbon are:

STAND & SALUTE
CAR DECALS (just released)
LYRICAL LETTERS (use the letter 'L')
and of course,
PINK JOURNEY

Let me know if I missed any and don't forget about the prizes this week!  You can read about them HERE, but comment on any of this week's posts!

Don't be SCARED, just be AWARE!!

Hello Everyone!

I want to introduce you all to Brenda Followell, many of you might know her as Bren's Designs from the cricut community messageboards and her BLOG.

Brenda just found out that she has breast cancer.  She is having a full body CT today to see if the cancer has spread to other parts of her body (she needs all of our prayers TODAY!) and is going into surgery on Friday for a double mastectomy (more prayers please!).  All of this is happening so fast for her and I am sure that her family is also reeling from it all. As a cardmaker herself, I am sure she would appreciate any cards that you would wish to send her and while you are at it, grab that ribbon jar that I know you have sitting on your desk and pull out a piece of pink ribbon... doesn't matter what shade or how long... stuff it inside the card, because as papercrafters we can never have too much ribbon.  Let's fill up a jar with beautiful pink ribbons... Brenda can keep them as a representation of the many prayers being said for her or she might just want to use them in a scrapbook or on cards later.  I've got a big jar (really big) that I will send to her!  Her address is:

Brenda Followell
6425 East H Avenue
Kalamazoo, MI 49048

Whenever my scrubby moans about my crafting budget, I always joke around and tell him that "Scrapbooking is cheaper than Therapy!", but it is TRUE!  Brenda has made some beautiful cards this past couple of weeks, check out this one... you can click on it to go to her blog where she has provided the cutfile for it.

Brenda wants me to let everyone know that she greatly appreciates your thoughts and prayers!  She also said that TESTING is essential.  DON'T BE SCARED, JUST BE AWARE!

1. Know your risk
•Talk to your family to learn about your family health history
•Talk to your provider about your personal risk of breast cancer

2. Get screened
•Ask your doctor which screening tests are right for you if you are at a higher risk
Have a mammogram every year starting at age 40 if you are at average risk
•Have a clinical breast exam at least every 3 years starting at 20, and every year starting at 40

3. Know what is normal for you
See your health care provider right away if you notice any of these breast changes:
•Lump, hard knot or thickening
•Swelling, warmth, redness or darkening
•Change in the size or shape of the breast
•Dimpling or puckering of the skin
•Itchy, scaly sore or rash on the nipple
•Pulling in of your nipple or other parts of the breast
•Nipple discharge that starts suddenly
•New pain in one spot that doesn’t go away

4. Make healthy lifestyle choices
•Maintain a healthy weight
•Add exercise into your routine
•Limit alcohol intake

(reference: www.komen.org)

I'll be back with more!  Don't forget that both Robyn (http://www.mypinkstamper.com/) and I are giving away a PINK EXPRESSION this week.  And Angela (my bff) and I have put together a PINK GYPSY BUNDLE to be given away to someone who is either a survivor of breast cancer or is currently fighting breast cancer.  You can nominate yourself or someone else, but the comment MUST say "Survivor: name" or "Fighter: name" in order to eligible for the Pink Gypsy Bundle.  EVERYONE is eligible for the PINK CRICUT EXPRESSION and you can leave a comment on every post this week (1 time only per post please!).  Please feel free to share this information on your blogs or on Facebook... and let's remind everyone "DON'T BE SCARED, JUST BE AWARE!"

We are especially excited about this giveaway!  Angela's mom is currently fighting breast cancer, her grandmother is a survivor and my mom-in-law is a survivor.  We KNOW the struggle and stress that women with this horrible disease suffer from.  So, we hope that this gift will help to distract or be of assistance for someone who really needs it!  Please help pass the word! REMEMBER:  the only comments that are eligible for the PINK GYPSY BUNDLE are ones that have the words 'Survivor' or 'Fighter' and the person's name.  Survivor is someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and are currently cancer-free.  Fighter is someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently 'fighting' or in treatment right now.

CAR DECALS Cricut Cartridge: HOPE FAITH Card

Hello Everyone!

This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so as we come to the end of October, Robyn (http://www.mypinkstamper.com/) and I, along with my BFF, Angela want to share with you what this month means to us and how we all can do our part to help fight breast cancer and find a cure.

Let's start out with a few facts about Breast Cancer:

Definition - Breast cancer is a type of cancer where cells in the breast divide and grow without normal control. About 85 percent of breast cancers begin in the mammary ducts, while about 15 percent arise in the lobules. Tumors in the breast tend to grow slowly. By the time a lump is large enough to feel, it may have been growing for as long as 10 years. However, some tumors can be aggressive, and grow much more rapidly.

Statistics - About 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer will occur among women in the United States during 2010. And an estimated 39,840 women will die from breast cancer this year. Also, about 1,970 men will be diagnosed and 390 men will die of breast cancer during 2010 in the United States. In addition to invasive breast cancer, an estimated 54,010 new cases of in situ breast cancer will occur among women in 2010.

(resource: www.komen.org)

Can you say "Wow"?  Those numbers are staggering to me.  Two years ago, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer and I am thankful to say now that she is a 'survivor'!  But, many of you know my best friend, Angela... well, her mom, Linda is currently battling breast cancer.  More and more people know someone who is affected by this terrible disease.

I wanted to start this week out with a very simple encouragement card that I made using the brand new CAR DECALS Cricut Cartridge.  YES!  Another cartridge with a ribbon on it!  The ribbon was cut at 4" and the butterflies (also Car Decals) were cut at 1".

Photobucket

Not only did I use the new CAR DECALS cartridge, but I also used Robyn's brand new 'Faithful Sayings' stamp set to stamp the words "Faith" and "Hope" on the butterflies.  This is one of 5 new sets that she has released, you can see the other ones and get more information on them HERE.

Today's post is dedicated to my mother-in-law. Here she is with my sscrubby, her youngest son... I love this picture.

If you have someone you would like for me to dedicate one of this week's posts to, please email me at cc.ladybug@yahoo.com with her name and a picture and I will be happy to do it!

Take care and don't forget to check out what Robyn has made today!  http://www.mypinkstamper.com/

CAR DECALS Cricut Cartridge - Glenn's Karate Gear

Hello Everyone!!

Here is the much talked about CAR DECALS CRICUT Cartridge!  This one is sooo cute and funny!

Here is the sample sheet that just gives you a peek at what this cartridge offers... but you have to click HERE and go take a look at the digital handbook (they are listed in alphabetical order)!  The wordart is hilarious!  And there are sports characters too... a different row for each sport that even includes the family pets!  LOL!

I just fell in love with the martial arts family!  I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it when I saw them!  My sscrubby, Glenn loves Taekwondo and while this sport does not require alot of equipment like other sports, it does have its fair share.  Not to mention all of the belts in different colors... he is now a purple belt, but we have kept all of his belts.  In an attempt to be organized and be able to find what we need when we need it, I like to use these big tubs for storage on the top shelf of our closet.  It helps to label them for easy identification, so I used this cartridge and white vinyl to label his gear...

Cute, huh?  Definitely not going to lose track of his stuff, are we?

Check out the cute font that is also on this cartridge!  It's a simple one and was very easy to work with.

I even like the kooky eyes, lol!  This guy was cut out at 11.5" and the font was 2".

CAR DECALS is a Limited Edition Provo Craft cartridge exclusively available at www.cricutmachine.com

Thanks for stopping by today!  Don't forget that I am giving away a GYPSY bundled with a GYPSY A-Z DVD and 3 extra dvds!!!  Just leave a comment on any and all posts from Friday to Sunday!  The winner will be randomly selected and announced first thing Monday morning!  I will even overnight express it to the winner so they can take advantage of the GYPSY PROMOTION of 6 FREE cartridges!
